Background Preview
If you aren't sure about how the entire background will look, you can right click on it and go to 'View Background Image.' That'll show you the entire background. Also, dragons can share backgrounds, so you don't need to buy multiples. The game won't let you anyway; it'll display "Already bought.
Increased Success Rate
If you plan on crafting a lot of your own items, then I'd advise buying/keeping a success rate necklace for crafting Level 20 and above items. Only equip the necklace when you're making items, or you'll be missing out on resources.
More Resources
Lottery - You can play the lottery five times every 24 hours. Make sure to remember to play it. Also, if you use a rank points necklace, that'll boost your winnings. Other than that, rank point necklaces only give you bragging rights. The fastest way to find an open lottery is to go to the Ranking page, pick a page in the middle, and take a look at those.
Equipment - Try to keep up with new equipment for your dragon. A Level 30 using Level 10 equipment really loses out on a lot of resources. The items that you really want to keep up with are the Rings and Necklaces due to how much they boost resources. Try to only buy items near the cap of that level, unless you find a lower percentage item that's cheap and can easily be sold back when you find a better item.
Efficient Equipment Use - Other than growth, which will result in more resources faster (dragon levels faster, resulting in increased resources faster), most special items only waste a valuable resources slot. Pageviews influence, more happy, and less hungry are really only useful if you'll be gone for more than two days. It's better to just make sure that you get your dragons enough views, visit your dragon, and feed your dragon.
Market Trading (AKA powertrading) - You can sometimes find good deals on the resource or items markets. You can then go on to use those to gain more resources. For example, say that a L10 3% Dragon Scales Tail Bracelet is put up on the market for 5 Green Aura, it's likely that you can sell it for 25-30 Green Aura after a little while. You could also sell it back to the factory for more, but you'll make more by selling it back to other players.
Market Tips
Using the Market - The more important thing is to check what you put down BEFORE submitting the offer. You never know who may happen to catch your mistake. 1:1 Resource trades usually go fast. Amounts of 10-20 on either end usually go fairly fast. Offers at less than that really just clutter up the market too much, if people are putting in multiple trades for the same thing. Generally, species-specific resources are worth more due to less production with similar values when crafting. That can vary, though.
Onto the Items Market, it's always a bad idea to sell for lower than factory sellback, unless you want species-specific resources and just want to get rid of an item fast. For items near max or at max, though, it's usually worth the wait due to higher demand for them.
Looking for Deals - Be on the look out for good deals in the markets. Use the search feature! Why buy something that's more expensive? In Resources Market, you'll sometimes see offers for 50 Red Aura while only wanting 5 Blue Aura and such. In the Items Market, check for items that are being sold for less than Factory Sellback. There'll also be people who were a bit careless and made a typo or just really want the trade to go through fast.
Gifting
There's currently no method for personal trades, but it is possible. I strongly suggest that item trading only be done between people who trust each other a lot. If anything goes wrong, only the ones involved with the trade are responsible. In the examples, A = gifter, B = receiver.
Gifting Resources - The receiver is the one who needs to put up the offer. e.g. A wants to gift B 10 Green Aura. B puts up a trade offering 1 Blue for 10 or 11 Green. A accepts the trade. Done . Note that you cannot put up a trade for 0 of anything or the same type of resource.
Gifting Items - A puts up the item in Items Market for __ amount. Make sure that it's overpriced, or you could both lose the item! B buys the item, then puts up a trade in Resources Market for the agreed upon amount.
e.g. Let's say that A has a L10 3% Dragon Scales Leg Bracelet. That can sell for around 30 Aura; put it up for maybe 60 Blue Aura, as an example. B buys the item. B then puts a trade in Resources Market offering 1 Red Aura for 61 Blue Aura. A accepts the offer. If B doesn't have enough of the resource, the Resources Market trade can be done first, of course. Again, if anything goes wrong, it's between the two traders only!
Temporary Storage
If you need temporary storage for whatever reason, you can put up an item/items in Items Market for the max amount of resource (99999) and remove it after you're done. Don't forget to remove the offer afterwards!
